A Day in the Life 2015

I (mostly) kept track of our activities yesterday for our yearly day in the life post… I started forgetting to write down times and details by the afternoon but it is still pretty close. I always put links to the previous years if anyone is interested. 2013 I was pregnant and not feeling good for most of the spring so I did not do one, although I should have done one later!

A Day in the Life 2010

6:30am – James got up early! His normal wake up time is between 7 and 8 (usually closer to 8) but today he decided to get an early start!

7:00am – We made it downstairs after I tried to convince him he wanted to stay in bed, and failed.

IMG_1136

7:15am – James had already played with his blocks, cars and started in on a snack.  In this photo he was playing with Cora’s collar.  Ocean also gets up early and starts demanding breakfast as soon as anybody comes downstairs.  I also snuck out to take Cora outside to go to the bathroom.  Usually Joe takes Cora in the mornings now…for awhile I did most of the weekend mornings but now even most weekend days he takes Cora out in the mornings!

IMG_1138 IMG_1139 IMG_1140 IMG_1142 IMG_1143 IMG_1144

7:25am – Joe came downstairs.  He didn’t really get to sleep in because James is pretty loud in the morning now when he wakes up (and most of the time…).  I finally fed everybody and got some oatmeal cup muffins in the oven.

IMG_1145 IMG_1146

8:00am – I decided to try and workout because I’m trying a free trial website for 30 days and they have free streaming workouts so I went to the mudroom to work out while breakfast cooked and James played by Joe in the living room. Right away in the morning seems to be the best time since James is usually in a good mood then and is more willing to play near me and watch cartoons for a little bit. Joe and James played with cars and read some nice Bob the Builder books.

IMG_1148 IMG_1150

8:50 – We had some oatmeal/apple muffin cup things for breakfast (they weren’t amazing). And then Joe went down to the Husqvarna store to see about renting a power broom for the front yard.  They were all out for the weekend so he reserved one for next Saturday.

IMG_1151

9:15am – After breakfast Joe did his weekend meal plan and grocery list (Joe cooks supper Saturday, Sunday and Monday and then I do Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), I finished up chores like breakfast dishes and the litter box etc. and James played in his play tents.

IMG_1152 IMG_11549:45am – We all headed outside to do some work.  James and I took down another section of the chicken coop and hauled some brush back to the burn pile (my ravine is filling up) and then James helped Joe haul some cinderblocks.  Joe had a mechanic day… he fixed up my bike and attached the bike trailer for me, switched out the snowplow for the lawn mower deck on the tractor and made good progress on hanging the tires on the old truck.  We decided to get the truck back on the road to use it for hauling trash to the dump and hauling lumber and remodeling supplies home.  By the time we register and insure the truck we could have paid for maybe 2-3 loads to the dump (by a contractor) so it made more sense for us to do it ourselves and use it all summer.

IMG_1155 IMG_1156 IMG_1157 IMG_1158 IMG_1159 IMG_1160 IMG_1161 IMG_1162 IMG_1163

11:15am – James was getting very sleepy since he woke up so early so we had to come inside while Joe stayed out and continued to work.

11:45am – James woke up from his nap after about 20 minutes and refused to go back to sleep so we went downstairs and had some lunch quick. Peanut butter and jelly tortillas with carrot sticks and almonds.  I finished up our shopping lists and plan and after that we headed back upstairs to take a shower/bath and get ready to go shopping.

IMG_1164

2:00pm – James and I were on our way out with our massive shopping list and several stores to go to just about when Joe was coming inside for the day after finishing my bike and the lawnmower and working on the truck etc.  Shortly after we left Joe headed out for about a 2 hour bike ride.

20150502_1310225pm – James and I went to 5 places and got some clothes with coupons we got in the mail, some household items, a ton of groceries and we deposited a check at the bank.  We ended up at the grocery store twice because I forgot tomatoes which Joe needed for supper so after driving about two blocks I had to turn around and we had to go back in! When we got home Joe had just gotten back from his training and was in the shower getting cleaned up.  James fell asleep on the way home too so he took a little nap in the car with the air conditioning on while I unloaded the groceries.  When I went to wake him up he was pretty angry.

IMG_1165

6:30pm – Joe was busy cooking supper by this point. We had nice and easy chips with salsa and lots of guacamole as a snack/supper except we ended up saving it until we went out to the fire later.

IMG_1166

IMG_1167

7:00pm – Normally we would be having supper and winding down towards James’ bedtime but since he took a really late car nap I decided to take him on a bike ride instead to try out the new trailer.  He was pretty excited about it… he really likes bikes.  We got his cute little helmet on him and I couldn’t find mine so Joe adjusted his for me and I used that.  While we were gone Joe went outside and got us a nice campfire going and relaxed for a little bit.

20150502_192118

8:00pm – James and I arrived home from our bike ride and went out to see Joe at the fire.  James was outside by a campfire a couple times last year but he didn’t really pay attention to it.  He seemed interested in it this time and had fun by us for awhile. At one point he went back to the bike trailer and tried to climb in and put his helmet back on… so I assume he had a fun ride!

20150502_202543

20150502_203027

8:30pm – We came in after a little bit, leaving Joe to tend the fire, and I made James a quick supper of cheerios, fruit, tortilla chips, nuts etc.  Just snacks… mostly he really wanted to eat the cheerios.  He loves the size of cat food lately and thinks it is so tasty so we got him some cereal he could grab and eat instead of cat food!

8:45 – We were sitting in the living room while James was eating and I looked out the window to see a mom and her daughter slowly walking up our hill.  The mom was clearly not doing so well and the little girl was trying to help her.  So I grabbed James and ran out and asked if they needed a ride somewhere and they agreed because mom was really not feeling alright.  They had been in Dollar Bay and were headed back home up the hill.  So James and I ran back to the fire and got Joe and he took them home safe and sound.  They really didn’t have that far to go but walking up our hill isn’t fun even on a good day so it would have taken them awhile!

9:30 – James was finally in bed at this point! He didn’t want to go to bed but it was way later than his normal bedtime and he finally let go and fell asleep! By then it was pretty dark outside and Joe had gotten the telescope out for us and lined it up so we could see Jupiter and three of its moons which was pretty cool.  The moon was also really full.  I cleaned up the living room real quick from toys and then brought out our chips, salsa and guacamole snack supper with me!

11:30pm – We sat outside talking and hanging out for a couple of hours but then we were really tired so we headed inside once the fire died down and headed to bed!

A Day in the Life – 2014 Weekday Edition

The past few years I have done a “Day in the Life” post just for fun.  I did not do one in 2013 because the majority of the year I was pregnant, the first part I was sick and barely blogging, then I just kind of fell out of blogging in the middle, and the end I was either extra tired and pregnant or caring for a newborn and I just never did a post.  So I thought today I would record a day with James.  It’s probably not interesting to anybody but me, but someday I can look back on it and remember what our days were like when he was so little! Our first few days home I did write down what we did at what times just to have to remember and they had even less of a routine than we do now! At least I roughly know how the day will go when I wake up now 🙂  I always like going back and reading my old posts like this to see how those days went too! Since Joe isn’t here to share in our day, I think I will do a normal day in the life post later in the spring on a weekend day when he is here and we are doing normal weekend things.  All of my previous days are from weekends.

Click through these for my previous years days’ 2012, 2011, 2010.

4am – James wakes me up after sleeping over 8 hours (normal is 4-7  for his first stretch, this was the first 8 hours).  James hasn’t been swaddled for bed for a few weeks now and he hasn’t had swaddled naps for a few days now either.  He sleeps in sleep sacks most of the time but tonight he was using his cozy Christmas jammies.

WP_001557

4:45 – James goes back to bed, I go to the bathroom, get a drink, pet Pinga (who rarely comes into the bedroom) and pet Cora (who likes to sleep in the sunroom), then go back to bed too petting Ocean on my pillow and Chloe by my feet in the process (this go back to bed routine is the same every time James wakes me up except sometimes I keep cookies for Cora in my bathrobe).

6:45 – Joe gets up, says bye, walks Cora and heads to work (thankfully I don’t think he had to plow this morning)

7:15 – James starts to wake up off and on and I doze.

7:45 – I get up and dressed and run down to put the trash out by the road

IMG_0253

8:00 – James is definitely awake now, get him up and changed and dressed.  Then, he sits and talks to me while I get food for cats, dog, rabbit, bird and usually my breakfast too.  If he is upset and/or starving sometimes the animals wait a bit but usually he is content to sit in the kitchen for a few minutes and look around or coo.

IMG_0254

IMG_0255

IMG_0256

8:15 – James and I in the living room eating our breakfasts (peanut butter jelly toast and cocoa for me and milk for James), checking things like email, Facebook, and bank accounts, check/pay bills and watch some of the Today Show. Lots of time’s we email Joe good morning too.  And send him stuff during the day… he probably wishes I was going to work so I couldn’t send him so much sometimes!

IMG_0257

8:45 – Play with toys on floor and try to capture (unsuccessfully) rolling over on camera.  I swear he smiles all the time but I can’t capture them!

IMG_0262

9:10 – Diaper break, More breakfast for James, Cora snoring in the recliner

IMG_0266

9:30 – Head upstairs, Diaper #4, partial outfit change due to excessive drool and spitup, James played on his floor mat for a couple minutes while I put his laundry away (I did all of our laundry yesterday and got ours away but I didn’t want to go in his room while he was asleep to do his!), then we played together for a couple minutes but James was fussy so read a book instead, nurse, James asleep for nap at 10.

IMG_0267

IMG_0268

10:00 – James is asleep, make beds, put dishes away, wash up last few dishes from last night, clean up toys in living room, wash last nights eggs because I forgot about them last night, wipe down counters, file away important paperwork I’ve been saving on the fridge,  take Cora out for a walk, feed and water chickens, take out some ground beef for supper, look up how to make homemade baked beans because there are extra soaked beans that I didn’t use in chilli last night, thaw bacon ends for beans after looking at recipe, talk to work about finalizing leaving and finishing up stuff with them, sweep and mop kitchen/laundry/living room/stairs

IMG_0272

IMG_0270

10:50 – James starts waking up, quick finish what I was doing

WP_001560

11:00 – Get James up, diaper #5, play on floor in his room

11:15 – Feed James, James snuggles/nap on couch in my arms, more Today Show for me and online stuff.  I admit I probably spend too much time on Facebook but I also read about stocks, news, blogs, child development etc., homemade ideas, crafts, and deal with ebay and craigslist stuff.  Last week I even read about web development but haven’t since…

12:15 – Sleeping James into Pack n’ Play which wakes him up and pisses him off a little bit but he is patient enough to look at his kitty cat for a few moments for me, start coffee, make lunch… ham sandwich, leftover chilli and a carrot.  Kind of a big lunch, normally it’s a sandwich and carrots/apple lately but I thought I shouldn’t waste the chilli and I still wanted my ham sandwich.  I can’t get enough of them.  We normally don’t buy lunch meat but for some reason when I was pregnant I wanted lunch meat by the end, so that’s what I had right after James was born…a turkey sandwich.  And now the past couple of weeks I’ve been wanting sandwiches for lunch too.  So today it’s just a big lunch!

WP_001564

WP_001566

12:25 – return with lunch and coffee, retrieve pissed off James from Pack n’ Play, watch trash truck come pick up trash out the window, diaper #6, make baby happy again and have him sit in my lap and hang out while I have some lunch, finish Today Show on T.V.  He’s still yawning and I think he is  tired but probably won’t nap on his own until later this afternoon again.

WP_001567

12:45 – Diaper #7, Play in jumper

IMG_0275

IMG_0276

1:00 – More coffee for mama, play some more in jumper. James even reached out and showed interest in specific toys.  Still need a pillow under his feet though, he is still a bit too short and needs a bit of propping with a blanket too for extra support.

1:10 – James is over it and wants to get out of jumper and have a snack and fall asleep in my lap, email Joe, switch T.V. to Live with Kelly and Micheal, add photos to blog from the morning.

2:10 – Sleepy James into Pack n’ Play where he wakes up mad (again),  start baked beans in crock pot, take Cora outside, get Cora new water/lunch time meds, bring mad James into kitchen to watch me finish putting beans in crock pot (he is a bit happier when he can see me but he would still prefer me to never set him down), microwave more coffee and then clean up over flowed coffee in microwave, Diaper #8, clean up dishes from lunch, beans and pot from last night.

IMG_0277

IMG_0278

2:35 – finish Live with Kelly and Micheal while James eats and snuggles again

3:05 – James is done eating, Diaper #9 (I did not realize I changed this many diapers each day!) He is clearly getting plenty to eat! James came upstairs with me, we took a couple of toys into the bathroom and he hung out with me while I took my shower.  A lot of the time I just give him bottles and boxes from the bathroom to look at, but I thought toys might be interesting today, especially since he has been wanting to roll over and move more.  Maybe they will coax him to practice! He also likes to stare at the big stripes on our shower curtain and I talk to him while I shower too – which must confuse him since he can’t see me but he can hear me.  He probably thinks I’ve gone invisible! Occasionally I get to shower on my own if I time it while he is asleep and I don’t always shower this late in the day either! James also decided to get into something more comfortable for nap time.

IMG_0279

3:45 – Head to James’ room to play for a few minutes and try for a nap.  He got upset when I tried to set him on the floor though so I changed him, Diaper #10, and then he started to cry and cry and cry inconsolably.  That’s not very common for him, only once in awhile, so we tried rocking and eating and distracting and nothing worked.  So I tried some gas drops, stripped him down because he was getting warm from crying, turned on his music box and sat him up and burped and burped him until several big burps came out and that did the trick.  He quieted right down.  He must have had some burps left from eating earlier but then he was laying down in the bathroom on his blanket so they didn’t bug him and when we tried to play I must have adjusted him enough that they moved and upset him in his belly somewhere.  Once he felt better we got him back dressed again and read books in my lap while he nibbled on my fingers and fell asleep.

no picture for this part.. no way was I going to flash my sleeping baby with the camera and wake him up!

4:45 – James happy and asleep for a nap.  Stir beans (they smell OK we will see how they taste tonight or tomorrow), take Cora out for a walk, get mail (only got one thing – a free coffee sample), collect eggs from chickens and wash and put them away, snuggled Cora who really wanted some loving, fed cats, rabbit and Cora their suppers (a bit early but a good time to do it anyways), put dishes away, scooped litter boxes, got a snack and some hot cocoa (I drink way, way too much of the stuff), vacuumed and then cleaned out the vacuum and washed the filters, shoveled the back door although it’s still snowing pretty good so it won’t  stay shoveled for very long and put a couple of books for sale up on Amazon.  James started to squawk around 5 a bit but I left him to see if he would fall back asleep for a little bit because a 15 minute nap hardly counts.

IMG_0280

IMG_0281

My goal for nap in the afternoon is like 3:30-5:30 or so and a lot of times if I hit it just right he will totally sleep for 2-3 hours and then get up for a couple of hours before bed again and if I don’t hit it right then he won’t hardly nap at all!  I still have trouble with the morning nap. I’ve aimed for 10, 10:30 and 11 and now the past few days I aim for 9:30 because he seems to get tired by then and then get up.  Yesterday he took 3 reasonable naps like 45 minutes or so spread over the day and that worked fine too.  Last weekend he took a random 10:30-2:30 nap so there is no good routine with that yet! I think if he had any choice he would prefer to just fall asleep in my arms all the time and just snuggle and wake up to eat and play and then sleep again whenever he wants and all with me! Sweet little baby!

6:00 – James is awake! A short nap but thats good because bedtime is around 7:30 but he would have been crabby if he had been awake all afternoon straight.  Diaper #11.  We came downstairs to sit and play for a bit before we go back upstairs and play in his room before bath time and bedtime.  Cora played fetch with us for a bit but she picked a squeaky toy to play with and that gets her very riled up so we cut it a bit short because I don’t like her to be super riled around James.  She decided to rip the stuffing out of a half torn up raccoon toy instead.  Oh well!

6:30 – Upstairs to play for a bit, Cora is in her look out spot waiting for Joe. James is not into belly time today and wants nothing to do with it so we played airplane and checked out some rattles and a crackly elephant toy he has.  Diaper #12 🙂

7:00 – Bath time! James sits in his crib while I get his bath warm and cozy and get his wash cloth and towel all set.  Then he gets all naked (last night he got naked floor play time too but he gets cold and then gets mad so usually he is all cozy in clothes instead… summer will come soon hopefully!) and we head off to the bath tub.  So far I have carried him to the tub and back totally naked and have yet to get peed on… probably tomorrow now that I say that though.  After bath it’s time to get all snuggly warm with lotion and a new diaper and a cozy jammy sack on and then we read a book, usually Goodnight Moon for bedtime, and then James eats while we rock and I read my own book quietly and then it’s time for bed! If he is still awake a bit he often gets his mobile to play music for him, otherwise it’s time to say ‘Goodnight I love you, Sleep tight I’ll see you in a few hours!” and head out.  I don’t want to jinx myself but he always goes to bed just fine, ever since his first couple of weeks.  Naps are rough (I kind of think he doesn’t like to sleep when its light out on his own because he knows its daytime and something is going on without him) but bed is like clockwork now.  I’m sure it will change and we will have rough nights again but for now I enjoy that at 7:30 he will go right to bed happy and full and sleep for several hours! When Joe is home with us he will do baths too and play with James before and snuggle him once he gets all cozy and then he keeps us company in James’ room while he eats and then we both say goodnight to him together.

IMG_0284

IMG_0285

IMG_0286

7:45 – I come downstairs, Joe still isn’t home from work yet, Cora is still upstairs in her spot waiting to bark at him when he gets home.  Thankfully James sleeps through this or I would get mad! I checked on my baked beans and added some more seasoning but they taste alright and I think they are getting close to being done.  I’ll see how they taste tomorrow, supposedly better the next day!

IMG_0288

8:00 – Took Cora out quick to go to the bathroom because she was antsy, just outside the door though by the chicken coop because I don’t like to go all the way back in the dark if I don’t have to.  Then I shoveled around the back door again and made Cora and I each a piece of peanut butter bread (mine with jelly too) since Joe is still at work and it will be awhile before supper.  And now because its Friday night I plan on doing very little with the rest of my night even though there are plenty of things I could or should be doing (Cora smells stinky and needs a bath and I didn’t workout today like I meant to), but it’s Friday and I’m ready for a break!

I always look forward to Fridays and weekends when Joe is around more because it does get a bit lonely here at home during the week since my main companions are a dog, cats and a baby who doesn’t talk yet, I’m not alone but there is definitely no adult interaction!  Especially with Joe working late nights a lot of the time and even over the weekends lately, I’ve been spending lots of time by myself! I’ll be looking forward to when Joe’s work project is over and the snow lets up so he doesn’t have to work late and plow so much and then in the spring and summer when I can at least get out with the stroller and go for walks! I suppose someday I’ll be wishing for these quiet days when I’ve got a couple of little kids who can talk back to me and/or won’t stop talking… I should enjoy it while I can I guess!

8:30 – Joe comes homes!! 🙂 Like I’ve been mentioning this week, he has had such long days the past few weeks.  We’re very proud of him for working so hard and doing all that he does… we are excited for it to calm down a bit though so we can see him more!

9:15 – We have spaghetti for supper… nothing fancy at all.  This week I’ve been making us food but for the past year or so Joe has been doing like 99% of our cooking for us.  He makes less of a mess in the kitchen than I do and his food comes out way tastier!  I just did it this week because he has been so busy at work! Last Tuesday I went to our only local store that doubles coupons (on Tuesdays) and they happened to have organic pasta sauce on sale 2 for $5 and then I had two $1 off coupons that they doubled so I got 2 jars of organic pasta sauce for $0.50 each.  I like coupons, but I’m never very good at matching sales and coupons, so I was pretty excited about this! I also got pasta for the same 🙂

10:00 – The kitchen is all clean, leftovers are put away, I’ll store some milk for James (I have a ton saved in the freezer for him and he refuses to take a bottle from me! I figure once he starts on some more solids though I’ll be able to use a cup or at least make cereal with it so he keeps getting it for a little bit), and we’re watching some T.V. and having chocolate milk and popcorn. I need to make a grocery list for tomorrow quick and Joe has to take Cora outside one more time before bed.  I’m very glad I do not have to take her out…it’s extremely cold and snowy! This is also the time I’d normally be doing my blog post for the day but today I’ve been doing it steadily whenever I can so I don’t forget anything.  It’s tiring just to keep track of everything like that but I’ll like to look back on it someday, maybe with James when he is older, and see the pictures and how our day was.  In a couple months I will do a normal weekend day post and include Joe more when he is home doing stuff with us.

And that is a relatively normal day here at home now, at least during the week, weekends are different and more relaxed! We try to sleep in if we can and spend more time relaxing and hanging out when we can too (when there is no work, or plowing, or pole barns falling down!), we make a big breakfast a lot of times and lots of normal chores don’t always get done if they aren’t critical.

Tomorrow Joe does have to go to work but James and I are going to drop him off so we can go into town and go to Wal-Mart and Tractor Supply for chicken feed.  I have to formally turn in my resignation too so they can finish processing it and get my last pay all set for me.  Then tomorrow night Joe and I are probably going to go to his bosses house for supper.. James too of course! They want to meet and hold and snuggle James.  I just hope he is a good, happy baby and might consider taking a bottle  from somebody if he gets hungry! Maybe Joe can convince him 🙂

A Day in the Life – May 2012

A few years ago I read a blog post where a woman posted her entire day for everyone to see what it was like.  After that I decided to do it too and now every spring I pick a day and tell everyone what we did for the entire day.  It’s interesting to me even if no one else cares much because I like to look back and see what our days were like!

A Day in the Life 2011

A Day in the Life 2010

5:00am I woke up to go to the bathroom and the roosters were already up and crowing.  Cora woke up with me but then we both went back to bed… her stealing my blankets and most of my side of the bed!

6:30am my alarm went off.  Normally I don’t set my alarm unless I work early in the morning but today I had a bunch of things I wanted to do so I set my alarm a little bit earlier than I would normally wake up on a weekend.  I snoozed my alarm 4 times though so I didn’t really get up until about 6;40 or so.  All of the animals woke up with me.  Buddy, Cora and Chloe all needed to come into the bathroom with me to get dressed and find my contacts and Ocean and Pinga were just outside the door.  As soon as I wake up in the mornings I change the cat blankets, pick up old food bowls, refill the water and scoop the litter box upstairs. Then I head downstairs and scoop the litter box down there as well as refill the dog water bowl and Chloe’s water dish.  This morning we made it downstairs around 6;54.  My coffee was already made so I got some of that and put away yesterdays eggs that I didn’t put away last night and by a few minutes after 7 the dogs and I were outside on our walk.  I always put a lot of my whole milk into my coffee and I have noticed it has started tasting a bit like grass again so the cows must be out on pasture already 🙂

Once we came inside I fed everyone, changed the rabbit cage and the bird cage and injected Buddy’s fluids. This morning the rabbit got hay, an apple and a yogurt bite for breakfast.  He loves yogurt bites the best.  Cora got a bit of Buddy’s dry food because I forgot to buy her some yesterday.  Normally I buy back up food really early but this time I didn’t and she loves Buddy’s food so she didn’t complain.  Buddy gets his kidney wet food in the mornings, Chloe gets her weight loss food with a tiny, tiny bit of wet food on top (I wouldn’t give it to her at all because she is on her diet but I feel bad and I don’t want her to feel left out so I always give her a bit too so she doesn’t feel sad.) and the other two cats get scoops of dry food and a half can of wet food each (we now feed all the cats twice daily instead of free feed because Chloe is too sneaky.).  This morning Pinga also got some whole, raw milk which she loves and I give it to her a couple of times a week because I worry that she doesn’t get enough food and water with only half her teeth.  Sometimes Ocean will drink some milk too.

I finished with the inside animals around  7:45am and at that point Joe was awake but relaxing in bed with his book for a bit so I went up to join him for awhile and we had some chips and queso for breakfast (I know that is incredibly healthy!) By 8;30am Joe was showered and we were heading outside to do some work.  Joe to put the blades on the lawn mower, mow the lawn, take the lawn mower to the dealer for a tune up (a block down the road from us), get new blades for our brush cutter and to trim brush and he also helped me by moving the rock in front of the barn doors so I could start cleaning it out.  I went outside to take care of the chickens, I took them scraps and then put away 200lb of food in the bins and mixed the food with oyster shell and grit – I used to give them three separate feeders but now it all goes into one mix which works better for us.  I also scrubbed out their waterers, collected some more eggs, added wood chips to some of the nest boxes that were empty and then I started to work on the barn by ripping off a lot of siding and starting to clean trash out of the inside.

On the left is the inside of the barn and the right is the outside of the barn.  The top photos are before pictures and the bottom photos are after.  It doesn’t look like a huge difference but it’s a start and the amount of trash hauled off or out of the building filled up my car!

Our front yard looks so nice now with the shorter, cleaner looking grass! Joe also trimmed around the edges and around the chicken coop and sides of the house in the back so the whole area around the house looks really nice now.  The only thing that doesn’t look nice are the flower gardens I have neglected so far… now I have to fix those too!

11:30am we had the car all loaded up with trash and we were both finished with work for the day.  Joe took the dogs out for a walk while I took a quick shower and by just after noon we were on the road to the dump and to run errands.

Joe came to the dump with me because it is easiest to back into the bay and I am not good at backing in! We filled up the whole car with trash from the barn, it was about 260lb and it cost us $8.50 to get rid of.  I think it was worth it! After the dump we went to the mall to walk around the pet store and consignment store (nothing came home with us!) and then we went to the bank, the Co-Op to pick up some lunch, the fish market to get some salmon for supper and then to Calumet and back to Houghton to two different bike stores.  The one in Calumet didn’t have what Joe wanted but the one in Houghton had something comparable (tires for his bike) so he got those instead.  Then we headed home to have our lunch!

The new transfer station is really nice and much better than the old one… Picture above of course.  Below is the fish market! In the summer they have a fish stand and you can buy lunch there but they weren’t open yet today.  I bet Memorial Day or June they will open but not quite yet.

Lunch was a turkey sandwich for Joe with tomato and cheese etc. on it and a goat cheese and sprouts sandwich for me.  We also had chips and queso and guacamole and then I had some feta cheese and Joe had some mozzarella salad as well.  In the middle of our lunch Joe found a tick on Cora and had to take it out.  Cora has had about half a dozen ticks on her today, everytime Joe pets her he finds another one… yuck1

At around 3:30pm, after we had our lunch (which might be late for most people but that is an early lunch for us on weekends!) Joe headed upstairs to work on his bike while I worked on my blog post and made some hot cocoa because I was freezing.

At about 4pm we decided to take a nap for a little bit before we went out for our respective bike rides and runs.  It was a very nice nap and neither of us wanted to get up!  By 5:30 Joe was heading out for his 2 hour bike ride and I was heading out for a run. I don’t normally run in the evenings, I am much more a morning runner so my run wasn’t so amazing and after a couple of miles I headed back home.  Joe always works out in the evenings so his ride was a bit better although he tried a new road that ended up having huge pot holes and when he turned around he miscalculated his time so he went for 1 1/2 hours instead of 2 🙂  While Joe was out on his ride and after I got home I took the dogs out and fed everyone their supper and then showered and got ready to go grocery shopping.

At 7:30pm as Joe was getting home from his bike ride, I was just heading out to go grocery shopping.  I was supposed to go yesterday but after work the store was so busy and the lines so long that there was no way I was staying to shop! Tonight ended up much better, everything was so quiet and I had the isles to myself and by the time I got to the check out I wasn’t even crabby so I let a lady go in front of me who only had like 4 things compared to my cartful because the self checkout lanes are closed right now due to remodeling.  I even stopped at a second grocery store on the way home to pick up a few things from there too so now we have plenty of food.

The only unfortunate part of grocery shopping is having to carry things inside and put them away! I didn’t get home until 8:45pm and Joe was all showered and thinking about how to cook our salmon for supper.  Once I put the groceries away, and once Joe had started the grill and got our fish marinating we took the dogs out for their bedtime walk. On the way back to the house I left them though and went out to the chicken coop to finish them for the night, I collected some more eggs and filled up their water.  I was supposed to finish adding bedding to the nest boxes but it was so late that some of them were full again because a few chickens like to sleep in them at night. In fact, it was so late, almost 10, that their lights went out while I was out there.  Thankfully it was still a little light outside so I wasn’t stuck!

Once I was back inside I started some laundry and washed a bunch of eggs and cleaned up an accident that Buddy had upstairs earlier in the day.

While I was putzing inside Joe was busy cooking us tasty salmon and roast corn for supper! We were going to make collard greens or broccoli but it was close to 10 by this point so we just decided on salmon and corn.  I’m not sure where the salmon was from, or the corn for that matter, but they were really fresh and tasty either way! We finally ate supper around 10:15 🙂

My fish (on the right) did look a bit nicer but I ate a hunk before I took the picture.  Joe says that was the best looking one too so just imagine that it didn’t get eaten before it had it’s photo taken! Buddy and Cora had a bit of fish too and we still have a piece left for tomorrow, along with 3 more corn on the cobs that I might cut off the cob and add to whatever we are eating for supper tomorrow.  I have a menu plan written but right now I have no idea what I wrote down for tomorrow!

Now it is 11:34pm and Joe and I are watching the new Mission Impossible movie so we will probably be awake for another couple of hours.  Joe has taken at least one more tick off of Cora and I am guessing Buddy must have some too if she has had so many, I think it is time for tick medicine! I switched over the laundry and started a second load.  That is all I will do tonight and I don’t know if I will even finish folding the second load.  There is more laundry but we need to be careful of the septic system.  I am going to feed it some Rid-X before bed.  Buddy still needs his night time fluids and the kitchen needs to be cleaned up a bit although Joe did dishes for me while he was working so there are only a couple of things to be put away which is nice! I doubt we will have dessert but if we do it will probably be popcorn.

I had a lot of things I had wanted to do today and some I put off until next weekend, because of some people needing weekdays off and needing to work weekend days I have two weekends off in a row.  That is totally unheard of and I am pretty sure I worked the last 4 since my last weekend off.  I was thankful for this one off and doubly thankful for two off.  There is nothing like having two days at home with Joe all to myself doing whatever we want.  We don’t necessarily spend the entire time together but just knowing we can do things either day is really nice! Today I had wanted to vacuum and mop the floors, clean the mudroom thoroughly and give the dogs a brush and a bath and maybe a nail trim but none of those things happened so I think I will try for those tomorrow.  Tomorrow I do need to get a good run in too and Joe needs to go swimming for probably at least an hour.   Other than that it will probably be a more relaxing and calm day with maybe another nap and some reading involved! Plus of course some phone calls to our mom’s for Mother’s Day!

My spot is next to Cora on the couch, I took this when I went to get my computer and some more wine to finish my blog post.  Cora has let me balance my mouse pad on her for almost a half an hour without moving and she finally got up just a moment ago as I was finishing up! She has moved on to the floor by Buddy now and there is no sign of any cats so they all must be upstairs.  Even the birds and the rabbit are quiet for the night now and thankfully it is dark so the roosters aren’t crowing either!
